Snow at Nezu Shrine Showa 9, 12 December
A wonderful mood is conveyed by means of lighting and multiple variations of colors in blues, greys, white, red, yellow tones and black. The focus is on a woman walking in the temple courtyard; we see her figure from the back, leading our view toward the distant doorway in which another figure is discovered. The scene is framed by a large lantern and a tree which emphasize, in turn the perspective of the setting. Above and beyond, it is the lighting and mood of the snowy winter night that gives this image the gentle and profound effect.
Snow at Ukimido, Katata The tea house in the lake is romatically shown in semi darkness, its lanter's glow reflected in the waters; the heavy, snow covered branches of a tree on the shore, reach out protectively over the roof of the small building; snow falls softly, on this night See Print Details

Ushigome Kagurazaka Showa 14 August Doi watermark top left corner. Publisher: Doi Hangaten; Printer: Yokoi seal; Carver: Harada
On a rainy evening, a woman approaches a teahouse with large lantern above, featuring the letters of Doi Hangaten, the Publisher; the glow of the lantern softly illuminates the scene - house- fronts and street, as rain descends in light. vertical lines onto the wet pavement. The isolation of the woman with umbrella is relieved by the small, scantilly dressed figure approaching just around the corner in the distance. A mood of quiet pervades, as in so many of Koitsu's works.
A rosy glow pervades the image, presumably from lights inside the teahouse. Geishas are entering and leaving, both seen in profile like mirror images; a sense of calm and mystery prevails in this subtly handled scene - one of Koitsu's best.
